May Day was celebrated with common action establishments in Turkey. Workers and labourers from the health, logistics and cargo, metal, petrochemical, food, leather, port, textile businesses raised their voices on May 1st with creative actions.

GARBAGE TRUCKS ARE DECORATED, SAILORS RANG THEIR SIRENS
May Day was celebrated with common action establishments in Turkey. Workers and labourers from the health, PTT and cargo, metal, petrochemical, food, leather, port, textile businesses raised their voices on May 1st with creative actions and activities. Cleaners decorated garbage trucks with posters of May 1st, sailors rang their sirens for a minute.
BANNERS ON BALCONIES, MAY DAY ANTHEM AT HOME
Balcony celebrations were the most original part of May 1st this year. At 21.00 in the evening, with the call from labour and professional organizations, balconies were turned into the area of May Day by playing marches, chanting slogans and hanging banners. In the statements that were made, the pandemic once again showed the decay of the capitalist system, a call for unity, struggle and solidarity was made.
The celebrations that started on April 30th continued onto May 1st. The workers who celebrated in their workplaces and areas during the day, turned the balconies and windows into the May Day area at 21.00 in the evening. "This order must change, we want a system dominated by the labourers," said the workers.
- Liman-İş Union celebrated May Day in Gemlik Gemport. The workers who chanted the slogan of "Long live 1 May" said that they could not be in the areas due to the pandemic, but that does not mean that they will not celebrate May 1st.
- As per the decision of ICS (International Chamber of Maritime Trade) and ITF, attention was drawn to the sacrifice of maritime labourers, working devotedly during the pandemic by sounding sirens on all ships at 12.00. TTK Port of Zonguldak in Turkey, Istanbul City Lines Businesses, Istanbul Sea Buses, Izmir and Canakkale in the Sea Port Gestas whistled for 1 minute.
- Maltepe Municipality cleaners welcomed May Day by working. Genel-İş member cleaners celebrated May 1st by hanging posters on their trucks and creating a convoy.
- Workers of Health-Work members at Istanbul Yedikule Chest Diseases Hospital and Sultangazi Haseki Training and Research Hospital celebrated May Day with their requests.
- In the Buca district of Izmir, the municipal park garden and cleaning workers celebrated May 1 in the Nursery Workshop and Cleaning Works Gediz Workshop before the work. Teams of cleaning workers took the job by hanging their banners in the convoy by hanging the banners containing their demands on their vehicles.

A SOCIAL MEDIA MEETING WAS HELD
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, field rallies could not be held, but DISK, KESK, TMMOB and TTB held social media rallies.
In the joint statement read by the heads of the institution, “The capitalist system collapses on humanity, nature and life. This crisis of civilization once again shows that the wheels of this order are not set up to keep us alive, those who produce all the values and beauty of the world. We now see more clearly that we do not produce for our human needs, we do not produce to live humanly, we do not produce to large sections of society to build a better life. We produce only and only so that the wheels of this irrational order of capital turn”.
Intellectuals, writers and artists also participated in the social media rally by sharing their messages and singing.
WORKING ON MAY DAY IS ALLOWED, PLACING A WREATH IS FORBIDDEN!
The Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK) executives and heads of affiliated unions, who wanted to leave the Taksim Monument in Istanbul, were detained on the allegations of “disrupting the public order”. The wreath that the police dismantled was taken to the monument by MPs. The deputies, who showed the workers working in the construction opposite the monument, reacted by saying, "Workers are free to work, their representatives are not allowed to leave wreaths."
