The Central Council of the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) released a statement following the words of Devlet Bahçeli that the “TTB should be closed”, stating that the “information and warnings against the pandemic is a legal and ethical obligation of the Medical Association; Our struggle to survive and aid survival is a historical medical responsibility!”
Devlet Bahçeli, leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), targeted the “You Cannot Manage, We Are Running Out” campaign launched by the TTB for healthcare workers. Stating that the TTB should be closed, added “Legal proceedings should be conducted against the administrators”.
Following these words of Bahçeli, The TTB shared messages of support from many people and institutions.
In the written statement by the TTB Central Council on the developments, the following statements were included:
“The Turkish Medical Association represents the indispensable good values of medicine.
Despite the ever-growing Covid which took thousands of lives, including healthcare workers, the TTB used every energy within them to defend the health and living rights of people.
It is a legal and ethical responsibility to share the warnings and recommendations of the Turkish Medical Association based on scientific data for the pandemic. Remembering the colleagues we lost to COVID-19 pandemic with a black ribbon and striving to prevent other losses is our duty of loyalty to those around and us and those we’ve lost.
The Turkish Medical Association and physicians are responsible for the future as they were for today. They will continue to do what they need.
As TTB Central Council members, we stand behind our words and remain on duty.”
HEALTH WORKERS: URGENT, INCLUSIVE AND CREDIBLE PROGRAM NEEDS TO BE ANNOUNCED
Health workers have made press releases across many cities, including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Manisa. Criticizing the governments health policy, they have said “You cannot manage, we are running out”. In response to Bahçeli’s “should be closed remarks”, TTB laborers said “The TTB is our pride”.
