President Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at his party's group meeting on Wednesday and targetted the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) and other professional organisations. Erdoğan called for the formation of “multiple bodies" similar to the recent change made in the bar association.
Erdoğan said “When necessary, our friends in the cabinet, as well as our party administrators, already respond to the delusional statements of those speaking on behalf of the opposition.
“Of course, we will not leave the concourse to those whose sole purpose is to destabilise the country. But we will not rise to the bait of their sneaky tricks either.
“How does a person who is involved in terrorism lead the TTB? Problems in professional organisations, especially in TTB, have reached an intolerable level.
“We have to implement the multi-bar association system in professional associations such as the TTB.”
Devlet Bahçeli, leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), targeted the “You Cannot Manage, We Are Running Out” campaign launched by the TTB for healthcare workers. Stating that the TTB should be closed, added “Legal proceedings should be conducted against the administrators”.
The Central Council of the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) released a statement following the words of Devlet Bahçeli that the “TTB should be closed”, stating that the “information and warnings against the pandemic is a legal and ethical obligation of the Medical Association; Our struggle to survive and aid survival is a historical medical responsibility!” (EVRENSEL DAILY)
