The Labour Party of Turkey (EMEP) Chair Selma Gürkan shared a message for October 29, Turkey’s Republic Day on her social media accounts.

Warning of the practices of the one-man regime that ignore the will of the people, Gürkan said: “We will continue to defend democracy and freedoms, and the sovereignty of the people, against the oppressive one-man regime.”

Posting on her Twitter account, Gürkan shared the following messages: “The prohibition of October 29 celebrations by the political government, which does not recognise the pandemic as an obstacle for its own rallies and events, is a continuation of its previous and current practices.

“We have seen the consequences of this prohibitionist mentality in the attacks against trade unions, activities of the opposition, workers' protests, and finally the march of miners.

“The political orientation of the Erdogan administration is to plunder the economy, create slavery in employment, the looting of underground and aboveground resources and nature, and the suppression of social life.

“Prohibition of celebrations of the Republic of Turkey is also related to this target and aims to regress Turkey. This will not stand. We will continue to defend democracy and freedom, and the sovereignty of the people, against the oppressive one-man regime." (EVRENSEL DAILY)
