Trade unionist Nurgül Kaplan passed away when there was no place in intensive care
Nurgül Kaplan, Branch Manager No. 5 of Tüm Bel-Sen, who was a cancer patient could not find a place in the intensive care unit due to the pandemic in Istanbul, has passed away.

Due to the pandemic, intensive care continues to be overcrowded. Nurgül Kaplan, Head of Tüm Bel-Sen No.5 Branch, working in Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), died when space in the intensive care unit could not be found due to the pandemic. In recent days, a child worker lost his life after a work incident took place in Denizli, following the accident there was no space in the intensive care to treat the child.
Nurgül Kaplan has been receiving cancer treatment for a while, after her heart stopped, she was taken to Kartal Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Training and Research Hospital. Kaplan could not be placed in the intensive care unit as there was no space due to the pandemic. Kaplan, was then taken to the treatment area but later died.
HELP CALL FOR INTENSIVE CARE
The Head of Tüm Bel-Sen Istanbul Branch No.5, Ensari Korkmaz, announced on his social media account that they could not find a place in intensive care for Nurgül Kaplan and said, “My dear sister Nurgül Kaplan, one of the executives of our union, was receiving cancer treatment; her condition worsened and had a heart attack. She is brought back to life, but we cannot find an intensive care unit in Istanbul. If anyone can help find an intensive care unit, please contact us”. Korkmaz, called for help on his social platform. Korkmaz, on the death of Kaplan, who could not find a place in intensive care, shared the following: “Unfortunately, we lost our friend, our comrade Nurgül Tiger. Because of the rotten health system. May she rest in peace a Good-hearted human being. I'm very sorry”.
"WE COULD NOT FIND SPACE IN INTENSIVE CARE"
Tüm Bel-Sen VQA Member Satı Burunucu stated that Nurgül Kaplan, who has never lost her struggle for labour rights, peace and democracy even while struggling against cancer for years, her heart stopped and returned to life again and added, “we could not find an intensive care unit for our friend. We Respect all that she has given, missing you already Nurgül Kaplan”.
Tüm Bel-Sen member Meryem Göktepe also drew attention to the fact that there are no empty intensive care units, especially in Istanbul as well as in the neighboring provinces, she then added, “We lost our Nurgül. We have been in the union struggle, in the women's struggle, we have missed you already. "Let purple violets bloom in your soil, my beautiful hearted friend." (EVRENSEL DAILY)
