17 of the students who protested Melih Bulu's appointment as the chancellor of Boğaziçi University were detained in house raids.

Many students protesting the appointment of AKP's Melih Bulu as chancellor of Boğaziçi University with the signature of President Erdogan, were detained in a simultaneous operation in the morning. It was learned that 28 students were detained on charges of "opposing the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911" and "resisting the officer in charge", and 17 of the students were detained.

In the statement made by the Istanbul Police Department, it was noted that an operation was carried out against 24 addresses in 13 districts of the city and 17 people were detained.

Contemporary Lawyers Association (ÇHD) Istanbul Branch made a statement on its social media account, "Many students were detained in police operations this morning on the allegation that they participated in the trustee chancellor protest at Boğaziçi University. It is a crime to detain students using their constitutional protest rights with home raids in the morning. Our member colleagues will be at the police unit to meet with the students detained by the Security Branch."

After Melih Bulu was appointed as the chancellor of Boğaziçi University with the signature of AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan, Boğaziçi University students along with many other university students protesting the appointment of trustee chancellors in universities, gathered in front of Boğaziçi University South Campus to protest. Police intervened the students who blocked the campus and its surroundings. Many students who were detained were released in the evening after taking their statements.

Faculty members protested the appointment of an outsider - AKP's Melih Bulu -  to Boğaziçi University by  turning their backs to the chancellor building.

At the handover ceremony in which AKP's Melih Bulu was appointed as chancellor, faculty members turned their backs to the building and protested the occurrence.

The faculty members said in unison, "Our students should be released immediately."

Protests currently continue after appointment with Presidential Decree.

Boğaziçi University faculty members also attended the handover ceremony held on the university campus in their robes. Faculty members turned their backs to the chancellor and protested. (EVRENSEL DAILY)
