An investigation has been launched into social media posts on Garê

An investigation has been launched against some citizens, including HDP MPs Hüda Kaya and Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, over their social media posts regarding Garê military operation.

Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation against some citizens, including Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs Hüda Kaya and Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, for their social media posts regarding the Garê military operation.

On February 10, The Turkish Armed Forces launched an air and land military operation against the Garê region in northern Iraq, according to National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar. Aksar said that the operation has now ended and 13 people, including soldiers and police officers, were killed after being detained by the PKK.

Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that it has launched an investigation into social media posts about the deaths of the 13 people.

In the statement, the Office said: “An investigation has been launched into criminal activity under Article 7/2 of the 3713 Anti-terror Law on the scope of terrorist propaganda and Article 301 of the 5237 Turkish Penal Code on the insulting and degrading of the Turkish nation, the Republic of Turkey and the State and its institution regarding social media posts that make claims such as ‘Turkey bombed a prison camp’ because the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organisation martyred 13 of our citizens as well as footage by the PKK/KCK terror organisation regarding the abduction of our citizens.”

The statement added that: “an additional investigation has been initiated against the 27th term MPs Hüda Kaya and Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu regarding the social media posts in question.” (EVRENSEL DAILY)
