EMEP: The deadlock over the Kurdish question is growing day by day

EMEP’s Garê declaration: The military operation must cease to enable a workable solution for the Kurdish question and fresh talks must restart to resolve the issues.

The Labour Party of Turkey (EMEP) has issued a statement following the deaths at Garê. The statement which was signed by EMEP’s Vice Chair Selma Gürkan read, “In order to find a democratic solution that is fair for all, the military operations must cease immediately and new talks must be reinstated to start a new process of resolution”.

EMEP’s full statement is as follows:

“The one man regime and Cumhur coalition’s decision to start a military intervention in order resolve the Kurdish issue is continuing to cause further pain and loss. The military operation in the Iraqi region of Gare, which has been continuing under the motto of “No stopping until the last terrorist is dead”, has had devastating consequences for our country. According to the official statistics 53 members of the PKK lost their lives alongside the 13 military personel which were held captive. Many families were left scarred by the news. We send our deepest sympathies for the families of the men killed.

The Gare operation has raised many questions to which answers are still outstanding. It was said that the 13 captives were released following dialogues. The opration showed this to be false. The calls made by İHD and HDP requesting the release of the captives was unanswered by the one man regime.

Furthermore, using the events at Gare as an opportunity the government is trying to put pressure on the HDP, Boğaziçi students and other non-conformist groups through declarations of blame and hate. This cannot be accepted.

Finally, “In order to find a democratic solution that is fair for all, the military operations must cease immediately and new talks must be reinstated to start a new process of resolution”.

Our country and the public have no patience or endurance left to pay for mistakes.” (EVRENSEL DAILY)
