Chief Prosecutor’s Office in Ankara put together an indictment for Omer Faruk Gergerlioglu of HDP who had been arrested after his MP status was aborted, with charges for his misuse of public assignment in his justice watch in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and violating the immunity of workplace.

In the indictment, it was stated that Gergerlioglu had been determinately convicted and this had been presented to the General Assembly of the Parliament in its meeting on Mar 17, 2021 as required by 84th article of the Constitution and consequently his MP status had been aborted.

In the indictment claiming “Gergerlioglu continued acting as an MP unlawfully on Mar 18-19 and 20 despite his public assignment ended”, it was emphasized that, as the minutes of the Parliament reflected, despite that his official duty ended, he qualitatively violated the immunity of workplace by staying in the Parliament day and night without interruption during the above mentioned time.

In the indictment, Gergerlioglu was charged with “violation of workplace immunity” and “misuse of public assignment” seeking up to 5 years in prison.
