RTÜK* once again flooded the broadcasters having views in opposition to the government. Even the live broadcasting of HDP co-leader Sancar’s speech was a reason for a fine.

Okan Konuralp, an RTÜK board member from CHP, announced that RTÜK, with a majority vote, passed a fine and a suspension of the show on HalkTV, viewing Cemo song as a ‘propaganda of a terrorist organization’, which a former MP of CHP and a musician, Hilmi Yarayici performed during the show named “Spectacular Memories” he attended on June 27. 
Konuralp voiced his opinion for the verdict as “My view on this verdict, with a quote from Yasar Kemal, is as follows: ‘It is not necessary to be hopeless due to a temporary situation such as this.’”

FOX, KRT, TELE1 AND TV100 WERE ALSO FINED

Konuralp, through his Twitter, shared the statement “More over, RTÜK also fined FOX, KRT, TELE1, and TV100. Current political power and the reflection of this power on RTÜK are the obstacles in front of the freedom of expression/free speech and freedom of press. However, all obstacles are for elimination. They can be eliminated! One final note: Despite the latency, Sozcu Tv’s logo has now been approved.”

TWO CASES OF HALK TV CONCLUDED

According to the written statement by RTÜK, in its weekly usual meeting, the High Board reviewed the reports by the specialists monitoring the broadcasters.
Besides the suspension of the show ‘Spectacular Memories,’ RTHB fined Halk TV for the statements used by journalists Levent Gultekin and Murat Sabuncu in the show ‘Two Commentaries.’

FOX TV FINED FOR THE “VIOLATION OF THE PRINCIPLES OF UNBIASEDNESS, REALITY AND  ACCURACY”

The Supreme Council reviewed the specialists’ report related to the violation of the principles of unbiasedness, reality and accuracy in some statements that the news speaker used in some news broadcasted on Fox Main News program. As reflected in the report, the wording the speaker Selcuk Tepeli used in three different news items were considered to be in violation of the principles of  unbiasedness, reality and accuracy, and it was decided to issue an administrative financial fine for it.

FOUR DIFFERENT FINES FOR TELE1

Tele 1 was fined separately for the statements in the shows ‘5th Dimension,’ ‘Day Starts’ and ‘Turkey’s Agenda.’ The 4th case reviewed at the Supreme Council was related to the broadcast of the news bulletin ‘Midday’. The broadcaster was issued an administrative financial fine under the pretext that the opinions stated and the slogan shouted by the crowd in the background during HDP co-leader Mithat Sancar’s speech were in violation of the articles of the law 6112, and they were considered to be of the essence of humiliating the national values of the Turkish society, and were beyond criticizing the institutions and individuals, but belittling and discrediting them.
RTÜK fined also KRT for live broadcasting the same speech.

TWO SANCTIONS ON TV 100 

TV 100 was issued an administrative financial fine for its show “Room Available” due to the violation of the articles that the use of coarse language and slang may not be permitted. Also, an administrative financial fine was issued for the reasons that the statements that weapons were transported to YPG via Turkey, used in the show “Let’s Talk Now” aired by the same broadcaster, and found to be against the principles of reality and accuracy.
