Qatari Emir’s statements, which were blamed by the Qatari media on an alleged “cyber hacking”, were only a mere indication of the long crisis between the Arab peninsula and its neighbors.
A severe diplomatic row has broken out between Qatar and countries in the Middle East. Even flights from and to the peninsular Gulf state have been cancelled. Qatar's critics, with Saudi Arabia in the lead, allege the Qataris were siding with Iran and also supporting Islamist militants.
Apart from its direct neighbours Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt is also taking part in a blockade which will disrupt trade flows and passenger flights. The United States, who have military installations in Qatar, are Qatars most important import partner. Most exports go to South Korea. The UAE are on the top five list for imports and exports.
