TGC Press Freedom Award was given to Evrensel’s editor-in-chief Fatih Polat

Journalists Association of Turkey (TGC) 2020 Press Freedom Award was given to Evrensel newspaper's Editor-in-Chief Fatih Polat.

Journalists Association of Turkey (TGC) 2020 Award for Freedom of the Press was announced. Press Freedom Award was given to Evrensel newspaper's Editor-in-Chief Fatih Polat this year in the ‘individual’ category. Unemployed Journalists were also deemed worthy of an award.

Journalists Association of Turkey (TGC) has emphasized the importance of press freedom since 1989 with the Freedom of the Press Award which have just been announced. 2020 Press Freedom Grand Jury Award was collected on Friday, July 10, 2020 at the Turkey Journalists Association.

On the Freedom of the Press Awards Grand Jury, this year; Writers’ Union of Turkey (TGS) Chairman Adnan Özyalçıner, TGC Senior Member Altan Oymen, Journalists’ Union of Turkey (TGS) President Gökhan Durmuş, Publishers’ Association of Turkey (TYB) President Kenan Kocatürk, Istanbul Bar Association Vice President Nazan Moroğlu, Arel University Communications Professor Nurçay Turkoglu, TGC Board Member Semra Kardeşoğlu, TGC General Secretary Sibel Sun, previous award-winner Tuğrul Eryılmaz, TGC President Turgay Olcayto and PEN Turkey Center President Zeynep Oral took place.

FATIH POLAT WAS DEEMED WORTHY OF THE AWARD IN THE ‘INDIVIDUAL’ CATEGORY

2020 Press Freedom Award was given to Evrensel newspaper's Editor-in-Chief Fatih Polat in the ‘individual’ category. Fatih Polat was awarded "Despite the difficult conditions imposed on journalists in Turkey, claiming the right to take people's news profession without compromising the universal rules of democracy and the struggle to achieve freedom".

UNEMPLOYED JOURNALISTS WERE AWARDED IN THE ‘INSTITUTE’ CATEGORY

2020 Press Freedom Award for Institute category was rewarded to unemployed journalists; "to prevent the right of the public to receive information in Turkey and to undermine social memory in solidarity with the removal of our colleagues from their profession through the hand of the sovereign”.

Due the pandemic, the award ceremony will be held at a later date. (EVRENSEL DAILY)
