Following the State of Emergency in 2016, Turkey ordered the closure of Hayatın Sesi TV along with 12 other TV channels on charges that they were spreading “terrorist propaganda”.
The Ankara 18th Administrative Court overruled the appeal submitted on behalf of Hayatin Sesi TV, which had challenged the government order closing the channel. The Court refused the appeal claiming that the TV channel is no longer a “public legal entity.”
Devrim Savcı who is representing the TV channel stated that the lack of “public legal entity” is due to the closure decision being via decree law. “They basically say that ‘I supressed it, there is nothing you can do, you can not make a complaint or claim justice’.”
In pursuit of workers’ rights, Hayatın Sesi TV followed ethical broadcasting guidelines and defended peace without any exceptions, and stood against violence and terrorism till the day it was closed. However the TV channel was accused of spreading propaganda of ISIS, PKK, PYD and TAK all at the same time. The accusation is unfounded and it is impossible for a channel to propagate different and competing terrorist organisations simultaneously.
There is no doubt that the reason for the order closing the channel was because the channel was a strong voice of truth and an accurate source for developments in Turkey. Hayatın Sesi TV was an opposition channel which refused to submit to pressure exerted on it through the oppressive politics of Erdoğan. (EVRENSEL DAILY)
