Indictment about 108 Figures, Including Demirtas, Filed in Kobanê Prosecution

Indictment prepared about 108 figures, amongst whom Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag are also included, was filed in the court.

The Office of Ankara Chief Prosecutor prepared an indictment about 108 figures, which also included Selahattin Demirtas about whom EHRT [European Human Right Tribunal] Grand Chamber had passed the verdict of ‘immediate release.

In the context of Kobanê Prosecution, prepared for a total of 108 figures, of whom 27 are in custody, including former co-leaders, Selahattin Demirtas, Figen Yuksekdag, and former house of representatives of HDP, the indictment was filed in Ankara 22nd High Penal Court.

The Office of Chief Prosecutor announced that it concluded the investigation involving the individuals that also included Demirtas, in relation to the protests organized during October 6-8, 2014 on the events in Kobanê. The indictment, prepared by the Bureau of Crimes of Terror at Ankara Chief Prosecutor’s office and sent to Ankara 22nd High Penal Court, included 108, of whom 27 are in custody, 6 on bail, and 75 on arrest warrant.

In the indictment, punishment is sought on the grounds such as “Violation of the Unity of State and the Territorial Integrity of the Country,” “37 counts of man slaughtering,” and “31 counts of attempting to man slaughtering”.

ERDOGAN HAD MENTIONED THE INDICTMENT TWO DAYS AGO

In a speech he made after the cabinet meeting held yesterday, President Erdogan had mentioned about the Kobanê Prosecution, and providing some details in the indictment, he had counted the accusations against Demirtas. Erdogan had attributed the statement “the chief perpetrator of the events” to Demirtas whom he accused of providing support for terrorism.

CHIEF PROSECUTOR APPROVED THE INDICTMENT AS SOON AS HE ASSUMED HIS POST

Ankara West District Chief Prosecutor Ahmet Akca had been appointed by the Board of Judges and Prosecutors to the Office of Ankara Chief Prosecutor. Akca, coming to Ankara Court House and assuming his post today, the first job he conducted was to approve the file of ‘Kobanê Prosecution’ already prepared.

THE VERDICT OF EHRT ON DEMIRTAS

European Human Rights Tribunal (EHRT) Grand Chamber, had passed a verdict on December 22, of  the ‘immediate release’ of Demirtas who had still been in custody.

KOBANÊ PROSECUTION

In 2014, during the actions organized to protest the ISIS massacre in Kobanê and Turkey’s role in it, as a result of various attacks and provocations, loss of lives had occurred, during and the aftermath of that process, HDP had been placed in the target by the government.In the context of the investigation, Ankara Chief Prosecutor’s Office had issued an arrest warrant for 82 figures including HDP house of representatives and managers. The Chief Prosecutor’s Office had claimed that the protests organized during October 6,7, and 8, 2014 were “terror acts,” and had accused foremost the managers of HDP and many other individuals of many crimes.
