The Labour Party (EMEP) issued a statement in reaction to the lawsuit filed for the closure of the HDP and the removal of Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu's parliamentary membership. EMEP Chair Ercüment Akdeniz, in a statement issued with his signature, emphasized that these developments are unacceptable and called on the workers, the people of Turkey and the forces of democracy: "Let's make a claim for our political freedom and democratic achievements".
In the statement, it was stated that the AKP government has targeted the HDP and democracy forces in order to provoke nationalism and maintain its power, albeit by force.
For a long time, among the bourgeois parties, the race to close the HDP has been exhibited in the dominant media. "Why didn't you apply for the HDP to be closed?" states that the race continued hand in hand, and as a result, the political instructions of the AKP-MHP block, the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor's Office applied to the Constitutional Court for closure.
The statement, which also touched on the removal of Gergerlioğlu's parliamentary membership, included the following statements:
"MARCH 17 WILL BE COMMEMORATED WITH TWO COUPS ON THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE"
"March 17 will be remembered in the history of our country with two consecutive blows to the will of the people. The first is the unlawful removal of HDP MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu's parliamentary membership due to a twitter post. The second is the press of the button for the closure of the HDP. The AKP came to power by criticizing the regime of tutelage and guardianship and portraying themselves as victims. Turkey has added a new step to its cemetery of political parties.
“THE HUMAN RIGHTS ACTION PLAN SHOWED WHAT HAPPENED”
Both the Gergerlioğlu decision and the practice of closing down the HDP clearly showed what the AKP meant by "civil constitution", "reform" and "human rights action plan". All these promises are empty. The aim is to intimidate all labour and democracy forces in the country, and to destroy partial democratic gains and political freedoms for the sake of "one-party, one-man rule" while setting the HDP as its goal. It is obvious that this move is intended to be crowned with an anti-democratic electoral system that will secure the ruling bloc.
The AKP government, which banned the strike of 200 thousand workers during its 19 years of rule, reveals its view of both labourers and democracy forces with its attempt to close the HDP and to close the democratic politics channels to the Kurds. The government, which ignored the HDP municipalities elected with the votes of approximately 4.5 million people, demonstrated the same understanding during the appointment of the rector to Boğaziçi University. Therefore, what is seized is the will of the people as a whole. Throughout this process, the unemployment and poverty experienced by the people deepens, and workers and labourers are forced to choose "death by starvation or from Corona".
"POLITICAL PROHIBITION OF 600 NAMES A BARRIER TO ESTABLISHING A NEW PARTY"
As stated in the indictment; the imposition of a political ban on more than 600 people with HDP is the proof of how barriers are drawn to establishing a new party beyond closing a party.
Closing the HDP is unacceptable. The Constitutional Court must reject the application for closure.
Those who believe that only the rulers will write history are mistaken. Because the labor and democracy forces of our country have experienced similar processes before, but never submitted to them. While strikes, democratic demonstrations, rallies, the united and organized struggle of the people paved the way for political freedoms, many powerful voters withdrew from the stage of history by being defeated in the ballot box.
We call on the working class of Turkey, trade unions, labour and professional organizations and democratic forces to unite in order to overcome this difficult period, we urge you to go with the democratic achievements." (EVRENSEL DAILY)
