Labour Party of Turkey (EMEP) has said that any action which carries the slightest implications of a coup can not serve the interest of the masses. The public need to be cautious towards the one man regime and the “Cumhur Coalition” (a coalition between government party AKP and MHP) who view such attempts as “God’s gift”.
Labour Party of Turkey (EMEP), has issued a press release regarding the Montrö announcement made by 104 retired Naval Admirals. EMEP has said that any action which carries the slightest implications of a coup can not serve the interests of the masses. They need to be cautious towards the one man regime and the Cumhur Coalition who view such attempts as “God’s gift”. EMEP called for the public and the working classes to approach such developments with caution and vigilance.
The press release which was made by EMEP Executive Committee under the title of “We are calling the public to be vigilant” read as follows:
"Turkey is once again going through discussions of coups, army intervention and politics following the declaration made by 104 retired Naval Admirals. The one man regime and the supporters of the Cumhur Coalition who are accustomed to seeing such events as “God’s gift” are working hard to turn the events into their advantage.
The coups we have witnessed in the past have shown that any new coup attempt or any event which carries the slightest implication of a coup will do little to benefit the working class. Hence the Montrö declaration has no benefits for the public and will not bring any advantages going forward into the future.
However, the Erdogan government’s inclination to see any social, economic and democratic requests made by the public as causing division or supporting terrorism or as an attempted coup and using such requests to increase its control and embed its style of authoritarian rule has become common practice. We have seen many examples of this over the past few years. Today, the declaration made by the 104 retired Naval Admirals is likely to be used in a similar manner; as an excuse to increase control and anti democratic practices.
We are therefore calling all working classes to be vigilant against such policies and to approach the actions of the Cumhur Coalition and the ruling party with caution.
A free country with the desired economic, social and democratic rights can only be achieved through the struggles of the working class.
For this reason alone we must strengthen our unity and struggle.” (EVRENSEL DAILY)
