The Migros wholesale workers who were left unemployed simply for having union membership, were first put on unpaid leave then sacked under code 29. They have now been arrested on the 100th day of their strike action. The strike action of the Migros wholesale workers has reached its 100th day. The workers have gathered in front of Tuncay Özilhan’s house, who is the Head of Migros Management Committee. Police intervened in the gathering and many workers were placed under arrest. The workers are calling to be re-employed. The workers gathered outside of Tuncay Özilhan’s house to read a declaration requesting to be reinstated following their unlawful dismissal. However, the police threatened intervention and made arrests.
ARE THE LAWS ENFORCED DIFFERENTLY?
The head of the Whole sale, Port and Sea workers (DGD-SEN) union Murat Bostancık asked the police officers if the rules and legislation were enforced differently to workers and the business owners. He said that the strike action was legal as the legislation around gathering has ended. He also questioned why no urgency was shown in paying the compensation due to workers?”.
