The Erdoğan-led, reactionary bourgeois alliance, so-called “People’s Alliance” submitted their Electoral Code Proposal to the Parliament. The Labour Party (EMEP) evaluated the subject proposal.
EMEP's statement reads as follows:
"The AKP has proposed a law to amend the Electoral Code. Every single point in the proposal has been written with giving the AKP and MHP an advantage in the next election in mind.
The current electoral legislation is already antidemocratic. Now it's being taken back even further. Even the reduction of the election threshold from 10 percent to 7 cannot be viewed as progress; it is merely an arrangement not to exclude the MHP from parliament. For a democratic electoral system, the threshold must be completely removed.
The changes to the conditions for participating in the election are aimed at only 2-3 parties participating in the election. The arrangement for the electoral alliance serves the same purpose. The AKP misses an election like the 2002 elections. The party wants to get two-thirds of the parliamentary seats by a third of the votes.
“THE PROPOSAL SHOULD NOT PASS THROUGH THE ASSEMBLY”
Not only do they play with the conditions and alliances of the elections, but election rules and logs are also being changed. He thinks he's going to get the approval he didn't get from the public with the deceit at the polls.
President Erdoğan is pushing himself out of election bans. During the election period, it makes it law to participate in electoral activities using all the facilities of the state.
This bill should not pass the Parliament. If it does pass by AKP-MHP votes, then it should be annulled by the constitutional court. The elections being held under this arrangement will not even be an election. Fascist and reactionary parties have been calling for years "stability in representation and justice in governance “in order to ensure that their preferences are not reflected in the ballot box. They’ve used everything in their hands to ensure that progressive, revolutionary, socialist parties are excluded from the elections. With this bill, it will no longer even be possible to say that we have had an election.
Unfair and undemocratic elections provide no legitimacy to govern in. The preparation for this change shows once again that the people are organized for a fair and democratic electoral system. Struggle, intervention, and supervision are mandatory.
Anyone who wants a fair and democratic election is welcome to speak out against the electoral law changes. We call for an upgrade.”
