Aliağa Labour and Democracy Platform will held a rally on Thursday, 4 August 2022 against the São Paulo ship containing hazardous substances, which is planned to be brought from Brazil to Aliağa with the approval of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change.
In its call statement, the organising committee said, "We are meeting at the 'Aliağa is not the dumping ground of the world' rally on 4 August to protect our air, water and soil. We must not allow the São Paulo ship with tonnes of hazardous waste, asbestos, lead and lead cadmium, mercury and organic tin compounds to enter Turkey and Aliağa. We will not allow this ship, which contains toxic heavy metals and chemicals that can cause permanent disorders even in children in the womb, to enter our country, which poses a very serious danger to our environment."
In the call, it was stated that countless workers have lost their lives in occupational homicides, cancer, etc. so far, "We will shout that we will not want the São Paulo ship, which threatens human health, against this understanding that is hostile to our water, soil, air, people, in short, life, at the rally we will hold on 4 August".
The rally, supported by Izmir Labour and Democracy Forces and Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, will start in front of Aliağa Petrol-İş Building at 18.00. (EVRENSEL DAILY)
